Kimberly Waigwa
Artistic Director
Kimberly Waigwa (they/them) is a conductor, educator, and interdisciplinary artist dedicated to intentional music making at the intersections of racial justice, queer advocacy, and community building. Their work centers the interior experience of being human, using choral music as a medium for reflection, learning, and collective meaning-making.
Waigwa has presented nationally with Chorus America, GALA Choruses, the Florence Price Festival, Bent But Not Broken, and currently serves on the American Choral Directors Association Diversity Initiatives Committee. They have also served as a facilitator for Temple University and the Choir School of Delaware.
They received their Bachelors of Creative Writing and Music Education, a student of Dr. Elizabeth Schauer, from the University of Arizona and held previous leadership positions with the Phoenix Women’s Chorus and Desert Voices. Waigwa holds a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Temple University, a student of Dr. Paul Rardin.
Waigwa serves as Artistic Director of One Voice Mixed Chorus in St. Paul, Minnesota and sings with Elevation, the flagship professional ensemble of Elevate Vocal Arts. In their free time, they enjoy writing, audio dramas, and graphic design.
