Hand in Hand: 2016 One Voice Outreach Tour

This fall marks the 14th year that One Voice has taken its message of hope, inclusiveness and equality to communities outside metro areas where LGBT resources are often hard to find. This year we’re headed to the Iron Range! All shows are open to the general public, and admission is free. However, free will donations are welcome.

This year, Hand in Hand, our fall outreach tour, is headed to the Iron Range with stops in Ely, Mountain Iron and Duluth. This year's program includes selections from our winter marquee concert, Out of the Shadows, a celebration of African-American artists and activists, and features compositions by African-American composers Ysaye Barnwell, Rosephanye Powell, Sam Cooke, and Billy Strayhorn among others. This concert also includes an exclusive sneak-peak at our new commission The Man Behind The Dream honoring the legacy of gay, African American civil rights activist Bayard Rustin. The full commission premieres this January at the Ordway in St. Paul.

“I always leave One Voice concerts feeling renewed and empowered. The concerts help me get in touch with my deepest feelings of joy, grief and pride.” - Audience Member

“I am 78 years old and I traveled an hour in the dark to be here and hear this concert. My son was basically asked to leave his church because he is gay. I spoke about this at a church meeting. Some people told me I was brave. I was not brave. I was angry and I will keep speaking out and keep supporting my son.” - Mom in Moorhead, Minnesota

“I almost didn’t come tonight because I have had such a hard week.
Too many sad stories. Your music filled my heart and has given me the hope I needed.”
Probation officer in Duluth, Minnesota

Outreach tour concerts are sponsored by incredible host organizations, who find concert venues, recruit community singers to sing with One Voice, locally promote the concerts, and sometimes even host the chorus for potluck dinners when we’re in town!
